I wholeheartedly recommend the Elfhome series by Wen Spencer. It's the perfect blend of fantasy, scifi, action, humor and romance (though a bit too explicit for Young Adult readers). And, though it could (and I hope will) be continued, the first thee books complete the "Tinker" story; however, the forth book, Wood Sprites, is just as good and very much worth reading.
One note of warning, in the Kindle edition of Wolf Who Rules, where there would normally be a space between sections when there is a change of subject or point of view, etc., the spaces that are present in the print version are missing in the Kindle version. So, in one sentence you'll be reading about Tinker at one location, and in the next sentence you'll be reading about Windwolf at a different location without anything to indicate the change.

Wolf Who Rules Wen Spencer 9781416520559 Books Reviews

These stories I read in hardback. I loved them so much I had to get them for my kindle. The characters are great and the things they do, make me want to be there too! I think even folks that don't read much would love these stories.
I started by reading the 4th book then the first and now the second book of this series, it's been a fun escapism and with this book has gone beyond First, it explores sexuality and bonds in new dimensions. Second, it looks at the relationships between diverse peoples and the responsibility of knowledge of others... Magic and spaceships are grounded in complex and multidimensional ways. A fun and meaningful escape. I've all ready bought and look forward to the third book.
.
Most of the book just didn't resonate with me like the first one did. I think the problem is that it's very difficult to have your main character be slowly driven mad by a cumulative effect from various sources, when the story is being told 1st person through this character. The result was a lot of rather un-entertaining reading. But the story gets going well by 2/3 through, and the first 2/3 is made passable based on the strenth of the first book.

One thing that kept bugging me was the repeated phrase "Elves cannot lie", when there is numerous examples of them doing exactly that.
Wen Spencer has become one of my favorite authors. Wolf who rules is book 2 of a series called Elfhome. It features a kickass woman who holds her own in a world that mixes Elves and humans. The invention of a twist in space that puts Pittsburg in the US part time and in the land of Elves the rest of the time is not a unique concept but one that is fully developed. It is the interaction of the heroine and her Elf Lord conquest that gives the story a romantic twist but it is really the interaction of the two different heritages that kept my interest. When the Oni (another race created by the Elves long ago) create problems for both humans and Elves from their own twist in space, it takes both humans and elves working together to solve the problem
I bought this following reading Tinker in printed format, a yard sale purchase. Having read the first I avidly sought out the remaining volumes. I can readily recommend this series to fans of the fantasy genre, regardless of age. With so much wrong in the world today, losing oneself for an hour or three is a respite well worth the cost. Purchase the series and enjoy be you merely young or young at heart. )
Wen Spencer has a rare ability to hold the hard science lightly and let the characters and their situation drive the story. Most sf authors are so excited by the science that they spend too much of their passion telling the reader all about it, while neglecting their characters. Spencer, on the other hand, focuses on giving us fascinating people in unusual situations, and only tells us enough about the science to show how it shapes their thinking and actions-which leaves the spotlight on the people at the centre, and demonstrates why science can be so fascinating, even for those of us who don't naturally look at the world through that set of lenses.
I raced right through this book! There is a lot of action, as it continues on from where Tinker ended hunting oni through Pittsburgh, deciding what to do with the half-oni and the tengu, then add dragons and Stone Clan and spaceships...there is a LOT going on!
My only quibbles are purely editorial the narrative switches from Tinker to Wolf and back again multiple times in each chapter. In my edition, there are no breaks to indicate that we just went from one to the other and it is very disorienting.
Otherwise, I LOVE THIS SERIES! I highly recommend it!
