I'm always up for a good sea adventure book ... Especially the current day ones that give me insights into the real life adventures and challenges of blue water cruising. Unfortunately, the 'voice' or 'tone' of the QUEST series is a bit off for me. A little too smug perhaps or self inflated. Confidence is one thing; self conceit is another. I've bought the entire series of books; I keep hoping the tone of the writing will improve with experience; you might really like them. The information is good, the experiences seem real enough, and even I have to admit it's hard to say exactly why I prefer the writing of other authors telling similar stories. Try one or two of the series for yourself and make up your own mind.

Very informative about what to expect in the Caribbean. I didn't like the ending! It need more to the finally.
David puts to words the adventures of a couple who are completely comfortable with each other. They deal with a grain of salt and humor the ups and downs of life, while wandering around in a sailboat and its challenges. It can be done one day at a time.
So, the whole "QUEST" series is easy to read without being redundant or boring.
The book moves along w/o dragging into mundane details.
In planning our own Caribbean escape, David and Wendy offer the real-world view of what to expect. From passage making, to the many attitudes and cultural differences that make up the islands, I can better imagine the experience in my own mind - both the good and the bad - and really ask myself if this is what I want. Read the entire Quest series and absorb the totality of this unvarnished experience.
Once again, David and Wendy invite us along for fair winds and rich stories. If you have not read this series and are either interested in knowing more about cruising or an expert, they are a must read. David provides just enough history of the areas they visit to keep you engaged and to understand what shaped these popular cruising grounds.

I highly recommend reading these books with a copy of Google Earth open so you can follow their every crossing, anchorage and excursion ashore !

I’m going to give the series five stars. It isn’t often when a writer can tell a travel story with this kind of ease. He kept this reader very entertained. I applaud all the other wannabe writers and their sailing accomplishments but most of the time this genre is full of blogs and logs that are short on structure and writing style. Beaupre has a strong precise writing ability that keeps the story moving forward. He concentrates on the detail of living on a boat, day after day with an eye for the unusual, without getting repetitive. I learned more about boats and liveaboards than I could have imagined. I bought all paperbacks - a bit old school. I would guess that the books were printed by ’s on-demand service. The quality of the paperback is outstanding. I hope he keeps writing, maybe some fiction.
I love this book! I have consumed the entire Quest series and enjoy each and every word and experience the author shares. His style is real, insightful, full of history and background for the places they have visited and very authentic in their delivery. As an official "Armchair sailor" I've read almost every book offered by cruisers and the sailing community and the books published by David Beaupre easily "Stand out in the crowd". I deeply appreciate the fact that the books offer a great deal of detail and touch on all aspects of sailing from the logistics of just getting in and out of an anchorage to the emotional aspects of living on the water. The author is successful in both educating and entertaining and it's clear he cares a great deal about sharing the story. It's been a joy to read these books and get a perspective that is different than most. What I enjoy most is the fact that you get to watch them start the journey as novice sailors and end up as competent live aboard cruisers. WIth each new book in the series you get the sense of their own evolution as both people and sailors. And, it is refreshing to read and learn about a husband and wife crew that have figured out how not only how to be good to each other as spouses on the water but also as crew together responsible for each others safety and that of their boat. Also, the author loved his boat and you can sense that love grew over the coarse of the books (And their journey together). Whereas the typical cruisers book is chock full of problems with the boat, repairs made, costs associated, grips about "The boatyard" this author choose to put attention on the good things about his sailboat and while I'm certain they had "issues" along the way he doesn't put much attention to them and treats them as "Just part of the experience". Because it is. Overall these books are some of the best reads the sailing community can offer right now and if the author and crew were still on the water I'd say they were the next Lin and Larry Pardey in the making.
